What to do in Krakow

Image
‘I’m not lost, I’m exploring’ A beautiful city full of history, architecture and culture.  Krakow is made up of two parts, the Old Town and the Jewish Quarters (Kazimierz). The city is easy to navigate and walk around (just have suitable shoes for the cobbled streets), if you are looking for public transport then trams are used.  This city shouldn’t be missed and I’ll warn you, prepare to pile on the pounds...the food is incredible! (Check out my Polish food blog for more details and tips on what to try.) So what to see and do... Cloth Hall Located in the centre of Market Square in the Old Town. A beautiful building home to a trading hall since the 13th century, considered as the ‘oldest shopping mall’ in the world. Great place to buy quirky items and souvenirs.  There is also a museum under the Cloth Hall and City Square. If you are interested in history/archeology, then check it out! The full history of Krakow is unearthed right there for you to e...

Top tips for travelling the Dominican Republic

Image
‘The paths you take in life, make sure some of them are sandy’ If you’re thinking of booking Dominican Republic or your holiday is already booked... I’m excited for you!!  You won’t regret it, what a fabulous place full of culture and beauty. You need to be aware and do your research wherever you go in the world but here are my top tips for travelling the Dominican Republic. Don’t drink the tap water! The water doesn’t undergo any filtration treatment so it’s best to drink bottled water. It is available everywhere, you will even see people selling bottles on the streets and on the beaches. For extra caution use bottled water to brush your teeth with and try to avoid ice in drinks. Most resorts use bottled water for their ice but be wary.  Bargain while Shopping Don’t feel bad, it is expected. The prices are put slightly higher on items because the sellers know what we are like and there’s no harm in them trying to get a little more out of us if...

Food in Dominican Republic

Image
‘People who love to eat are the best kind of people’  Another blog about food... yes please!  Dominican Republic is known and loved for their culinary delights!  Here’s my top 10 things not to miss out on!!  Fresh Fruit The fruit out in Dominican Republic is so juicy and delicious. Fresh from the trees and cut in front of you, what more do you want!! So many different things to try as well as the ones we know already.  One unusual fruit you must try is Limoncillo or also know as Guenepa which are round, green and have skin that cracks easily for you to eat the fruit inside, bit like a lychee but a pinky yellow colour. Also try Papaya which is like melon but goes off quickly so needs to be eaten quickly when ripe. Lastly try sea grapes, everyone has their own opinion but they look like grapes and are found growing on most beaches. Refreshing but quite seedy.  Don’t forget to have the refreshing coconut, mangos, passion fruit, bananas, p...

Dominican Republic

‘Nothing soothes the soul like a walk on the beach’ I couldn’t wait to visit Dominican Republic with its white sands, crystal blue waters and swaying palm trees... PARADISE!! First a little bit of history...  This island is also known as Hispaniola and is the second biggest in the Caribbean which is made up of Dominican Republic and Haiti. These two countries are separated by a boarder and the people living on either side of the island rarely mix after decades of political tensions and mutual fears fed by a history of wars and massacres. People from Haiti who come over to Dominican Republic do so looking for work as the Dominican Republic is the more greener, rainier side of the island and has better farmland which means more jobs especially working in the sugar cane fields. Also it is a popular tourist destination which also creates more job opportunities. It’s sad to think that this is how things have ended up but hopefully in the future the government will sort themse...
